The Timeless Journey of Mr. Akash Kalra & United Group**
In a country where food often carries the weight of memories, emotions, and cultural identity, few institutions have preserved this heritage as gracefully as United Coffee House. And at the heart of this legacy stands a visionary entrepreneur—Mr. Akash Kalra, the third-generation custodian of the iconic United Group.
For Mr. Kalra, hospitality is not just a profession—it’s a legacy written into his earliest memories. Growing up surrounded by the hum of conversations, iconic recipes, and Delhi’s evolving culinary landscape, his love for gastronomy was shaped long before he stepped into leadership.
Armed with a Delhi University degree and advanced hospitality training, he didn’t merely inherit an 80-year-old legacy—he reimagined it. When he entered the business in his twenties, United Coffee House was a beloved Connaught Place landmark. Under his guidance, it transformed into a pan-India culinary empire while retaining every drop of its original soul.
Founded in the early 1930s in undivided India, United Coffee House was Delhi’s first café—a sophisticated space that blended global flavours with the city’s artistic and intellectual charm. Over the decades, it became a cultural melting pot where royalty dined, diplomats debated, and generations bonded over timeless recipes.
Today, thanks to Mr. Kalra’s stewardship, UCH stands as a living museum of India’s dining heritage. He revived fading recipes, preserved traditional cooking techniques, and simultaneously modernised the dining experience without compromising authenticity. The result? A menu with over 400 dishes, each echoing history, warmth, and craftsmanship.
While rooted in heritage, Mr. Kalra has never shied away from innovation. His vision stretches far beyond nostalgia.
A contemporary spin-off of the original classic, Rewind brings vintage charm into the modern era. With outlets across Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, and Chandigarh, it caters to the youth while preserving the brand’s comforting familiarity.
Recognising the nation’s evolving palate, he went on to build Maska, a vibrant QSR brand that blends Indian and Chinjabi flavours. With six thriving outlets and more underway, Maska seamlessly merges dine-in, delivery, and cloud kitchen formats—reflecting Mr. Kalra’s deep understanding of modern dining behaviour.
As United Coffee House prepares to enter historically rich colonial cities like Bombay and Kolkata, Mr. Kalra continues to lead with strategic foresight and heartfelt respect for heritage. For him, nostalgia isn’t just an emotion—it’s a responsibility. A story worth preserving. A flavour worth reviving.
With 33 years of leadership and the honour of being awarded Times Restaurateur of the Year 2025, Mr. Akash Kalra represents the perfect blend of tradition and transformation. He is not just running restaurants—he’s safeguarding culinary history for generations to come.
His mission remains unwavering:
To ensure the legacy of United Group doesn’t just live in Delhi’s memory, but becomes an unforgettable chapter of India’s gastronomic journey.
