A First for Indian Hospitality: Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Goa Champions Clean Energy Storage with Tata Power

Indian hospitality has reached a defining sustainability milestone. In a pioneering collaboration, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Goa has become the first hotel in India to implement a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in partnership with Tata Power—a first-of-its-kind initiative for Tata Power within the hospitality sector.

Set against the serene beaches of South Goa, the luxury resort has seamlessly blended responsible innovation with refined guest experiences, proving that sustainability and indulgence can coexist beautifully.

Powering Luxury with Purpose

The newly commissioned BESS at Taj Exotica Goa boasts an approximate storage capacity of 2 MW, making it one of the most advanced energy storage systems deployed in Indian hospitality to date. Designed and executed by Tata Power after extensive technical feasibility studies, the system optimises energy consumption, ensures grid stability, and significantly reduces reliance on diesel-based power generation.

With an investment of approximately ₹3.50 crore, the project is projected to deliver annual savings of nearly ₹1.50 crore, underscoring how clean energy can also be commercially smart.

Aligned with a Larger Sustainability Vision

This initiative directly supports IHCL’s decarbonisation roadmap under Paathya, the sustainability framework driving responsible growth across its portfolio. It also aligns with the Tata Group’s Aalingana vision, which focuses on long-term environmental stewardship and climate-positive action.

By adopting cutting-edge energy storage solutions, Taj Exotica Goa is not just reducing emissions—it is reshaping how luxury hotels think about energy resilience and climate responsibility.

A Statement for the Future of Hospitality

Speaking on the project’s significance, Ms. Sheetal Singh, Area Director – South, highlighted how the integration of advanced clean energy infrastructure reflects IHCL’s commitment to leading from the front. The BESS installation demonstrates how iconic hospitality brands can act as catalysts for meaningful environmental change without compromising on guest comfort or operational excellence.

Setting a New Benchmark

As sustainability becomes a defining expectation rather than a differentiator, Taj Exotica Goa’s collaboration with Tata Power sets a powerful precedent. It sends a clear message: the future of Indian hospitality lies in innovative, scalable, and responsible energy solutions.

This landmark project is more than a technological upgrade—it is a blueprint for luxury hotels across India to follow, where clean energy, cost efficiency, and conscious living come together in perfect harmony.
