Celebrate Ugadi 2026 with an Authentic South Indian Feast at Dakshin, ITC Grand Central Mumbai

As spring arrives and the South Indian New Year approaches, Mumbai’s luxury dining scene prepares to welcome one of the most culturally rich festivals of the year—Ugadi. This March, the iconic restaurant Dakshin at ITC Grand Central, Mumbai invites guests to celebrate the spirit of renewal, prosperity, and tradition with a specially curated Ugadi festive feast.

Running from 13th March to 22nd March 2026, this limited-time culinary experience brings the authentic flavours and timeless traditions of South India to the heart of Mumbai.

A Festive Culinary Journey Rooted in Tradition

Ugadi marks the beginning of a new year in several South Indian states and symbolizes new beginnings, hope, and balance in life. To honour this tradition, Dakshin’s chefs have designed a menu that beautifully reflects the festival’s cultural and culinary significance.

The meal begins with the traditional Ugadi Pachadi, a symbolic preparation made with raw mango, jaggery, neem flowers, tamarind, chilli, and salt. Each ingredient represents different emotions and experiences of life—sweetness, bitterness, tanginess, and spice—reminding us that life is a perfect blend of many flavours.

Complementing the opening ritual are refreshing festive drinks such as Panagam, a cooling beverage crafted with jaggery, tulsi leaves, lemon juice, and pepper. This traditional drink not only refreshes the palate but also sets the perfect tone for the celebratory meal ahead.

Signature Starters from the Dakshin Kitchen

The dining experience continues with Dakshin Vishesha, a special Ugadi selection of starters presented from the traditional Iyer’s trolley. Guests can savour an assortment of delicacies paired with freshly prepared chutneys and a basket of crisp appalams, bringing an authentic South Indian touch to the table.

This thoughtfully curated course showcases Dakshin’s expertise in recreating regional flavours while maintaining the authenticity that the restaurant is known for.

A Grand Spread of Regional South Indian Classics

The Ugadi feast unfolds into a vibrant spread of vegetarian dishes that highlight the diversity of South Indian cuisine.

Guests can indulge in dishes such as:

  • Bendakaya Vepudu – perfectly pan-tossed okra with aromatic spices

  • Padhpe Upakari – locally sourced greens tempered with garlic, chilli, and coconut

  • Muvvankaya – slow-cooked aubergines in a rich green chilli and poppy seed paste

  • Puttagodugulu Jeedipappu Iguru – a flavourful preparation of mushrooms and cashew nuts

Each dish is carefully crafted to bring out the authentic textures and flavours that define traditional South Indian festive cuisine.

Comforting South Indian Staples

No Ugadi celebration is complete without comforting staples that evoke the warmth of home cooking. The main course features beloved classics including:

  • Tarkari Kurmah

  • Tomato Pappu

  • Sambar

  • Rasam

These dishes are served alongside traditional accompaniments such as Kal Dosai, Chitrannam, and Bagala Baath, creating a wholesome and satisfying festive spread.

A Sweet Ending with Classic Desserts

The celebration concludes with indulgent desserts that perfectly capture the festive spirit. Guests can enjoy the creamy richness of Basundi and the comforting sweetness of Payasam.

To end the experience on a soulful note, the meal finishes with Dakshin’s signature South Indian filter coffee (Dakshin Kaapi)—a beloved classic that completes the Ugadi feast in the most authentic way.
