A Literary Evening of Reflection and Resilience in Kolkata
Kolkata, a city where literature breathes through its streets and conversations, witnessed yet another memorable cultural gathering this April. The elegant Makaibari Bungalow at Taj Bengal set the stage for an intimate literary evening that beautifully blended storytelling, heritage, and thoughtful dialogue.
Organised in collaboration with Kolkata Literary Meet 2026 and presented by Luxmi Tea Group, the evening brought together some of the city’s most passionate readers, writers, and cultural enthusiasts.
Where Stories Meet Experience
The evening unfolded with a refined high tea at 5:30 pm, offering guests a warm and sophisticated welcome. As the sun dipped, attendees gathered for the much-anticipated author session, held within the charming and intimate setting of the bungalow—an ambiance that felt both timeless and deeply reflective.
A Conversation That Resonated
At the heart of the evening was an engaging conversation featuring acclaimed journalist and author Harinder Baweja, in dialogue with writer and commentator Aritra Sarkar.
Discussing Baweja’s powerful book They Will Shoot You Madam – My Life Through Conflict, the session moved beyond a typical reading. It became a deeply human exchange—exploring the emotional weight of reporting from conflict zones, the courage behind truth-telling, and the personal experiences that shape powerful narratives.
Aritra Sarkar steered the conversation with nuance and empathy, drawing out themes of resilience, memory, and the importance of storytelling in documenting difficult realities.
An Intimate Cultural Gathering
What made the evening truly special was its exclusivity. The invite-only format fostered meaningful interactions, allowing guests to actively engage through thoughtful questions and reflections. It wasn’t just an event—it was a shared intellectual experience.
Rooted in Heritage and Culture
Inspired by the legacy of the historic Makaibari Tea Estate, Makaibari Bungalow continues to evolve as more than just a venue. It stands as a cultural space—one that nurtures conversations around literature, art, and heritage with authenticity and depth.
A Celebration of Kolkata’s Literary Soul
As the evening drew to a close, it left behind a quiet yet powerful reminder of Kolkata’s enduring relationship with books, ideas, and meaningful dialogue. Events like these don’t just celebrate literature—they keep the city’s intellectual spirit alive.
