Honolulu, Hawaii: The Laylow Waikiki, Autograph Collection has announced the appointment of Joey Woofter as Managing Director, bringing more than 15 years of hospitality experience across Hawaii and the U.S. mainland to the boutique Waikiki property.
Woofter joins the hotel with a strong background in hotel operations, team leadership and hospitality culture. His career has included leadership roles with major hotel brands, with particular expertise in rooms operations as well as experience supporting hotel renovations, openings and large-scale transformation projects.
A Career Built on Hospitality Experience
Woofter began his hospitality career with Hyatt, where he worked in front office and housekeeping at Hyatt Regency Waikiki. He later progressed through leadership positions across several major hotel brands, gaining experience in different areas of hotel operations.
His career took another significant step at Turtle Bay Resort, where he played a role in the property’s transformation. His extensive experience in Hawaii has also given him a strong understanding of the islands’ hospitality landscape and the distinctive expectations of travelers visiting the destination.
New Leadership at The Laylow Waikiki
In his new role as Managing Director, Woofter will oversee the hotel’s overall performance, including daily operations, guest experience, financial results and employee engagement.
A key focus will be strengthening the hotel’s distinctive culture while identifying opportunities for continued growth. Woofter will also work to ensure that business and operational decisions remain closely connected to The Laylow’s individual character and sense of place.

Under Woofter’s leadership, the property will continue building on its distinctive personality while maintaining a focus on attentive and personalized hospitality.
A Longstanding Connection to Hawaii
Originally from a small farming community in Nebraska, Woofter moved to Hawaii to attend Hawai‘i Pacific University. Over the years, he established both his personal and professional roots in the islands.
Woofter lives in Hawaii with his wife, Jane, their seven-year-old son, Leo, and their dog, Dottie. Outside of his professional responsibilities, he enjoys spending time with his family and taking part in outdoor activities such as golf, fishing, skateboarding and surfing.

With more than 15 years of hospitality experience and a deep connection to Hawaii, Woofter brings a combination of operational expertise and local knowledge to his new position.
As Managing Director, he will help guide The Laylow Waikiki through its next phase while continuing to develop the property’s guest experience, team culture and distinctive local identity.
