Summit Hotel Properties, Inc. has appointed Mike Nieves as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective 1 November 2026. Bringing extensive experience across hospitality finance, capital markets, real estate investment banking and corporate leadership, Nieves will play an important role in guiding the company’s financial strategy and supporting its long-term business objectives.
His appointment adds a wealth of financial and investment expertise to Summit Hotel Properties’ senior leadership team as the company continues to focus on its hotel investment portfolio and business growth.
Mike Nieves’ Experience in Finance and Hospitality
Before joining Summit Hotel Properties, Nieves served as Senior Vice President of Finance and Treasurer at PENN Entertainment, Inc., a publicly traded company operating across gaming, entertainment and hospitality.
During his tenure, he oversaw several important financial functions, including investor relations, capital markets, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), treasury and risk management.
His experience at PENN Entertainment provided him with valuable exposure to the financial and operational requirements of a large publicly traded organisation, particularly within the hospitality and entertainment sectors.
Experience Across Real Estate and Investment Banking
Prior to PENN Entertainment, Nieves worked as a Director in JLL’s M&A and Corporate Advisory group. In this position, he advised on and executed real estate dispositions, strategic transactions and capital-raising initiatives.
He also held the position of Vice President in Citigroup’s Real Estate and Lodging Investment Banking Group, where he developed expertise in real estate finance, investment banking and corporate transactions.
Earlier in his professional journey, Nieves practised corporate law at Willkie Farr & Gallagher. This experience strengthened his understanding of corporate governance, financial structures, business transactions and strategic decision-making.
His career across investment banking, real estate advisory, corporate law and hospitality finance gives him a diverse professional background suited to his new responsibilities.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from American University Washington College of Law and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.
