A Taste of Kerala in the Heart of Mumbai
This Onam, HyLo, Kala Ghoda, invites diners to celebrate the spirit of Kerala through a traditional Onam Sadhya on 26 August 2026. Set in the heart of Mumbai’s Fort district, the festive dining experience brings together the warmth of communal dining, the generosity of a traditional Sadhya and the rich culinary heritage associated with Onam.
Rather than reinventing the traditional feast, HyLo is keeping the experience rooted in its origins. The Sadhya will be served as a traditional sit-down meal, allowing guests to enjoy familiar flavours, time-honoured preparations and the sense of togetherness that makes Onam celebrations so special.
A Traditional Onam Sadhya at HyLo
The Onam Sadhya is more than a festive meal. Traditionally served as an elaborate vegetarian feast, it brings together a variety of flavours, textures and preparations on a single banana leaf, celebrating the abundance and diversity of Kerala’s cuisine.
At HyLo, the Sadhya reflects the restaurant’s broader philosophy of showcasing India through provenance-led and hyperlocal cuisine. The menu focuses on traditional preparations while giving diners an opportunity to experience the depth of Kerala’s culinary traditions in a relaxed Mumbai setting.
The feast begins with an assortment of accompaniments, including Pazham Nurukku, Mango Pickle, Lime Pickle, Injipuli, Banana Chips, Jaggery Banana Chips, Boondi, Kalath Podi with Ghee, Veppilakatti and Pappadam. These introductory elements set the tone for a meal filled with contrasting sweet, tangy, spicy and savoury flavours.
An Extensive Spread of Kerala Specialities
The Sadhya continues with comforting traditional preparations such as Masala Vada, Kozhukattai, Parippu, Pazham Pulissery, Vendakkai Sambar and Lemon Rasam. Each dish contributes a distinct flavour to the feast, creating the layered experience that a traditional Sadhya is known for.
The vegetable section features Carrot Kichadi, Pineapple Pachadi, Muzhukku Puratti, Urulai Kizhangu Poriyal, Avial and Vada Kootu Curry. These dishes will be served alongside steamed red rice and steamed white rice, allowing guests to enjoy the curries and accompaniments in the traditional style.
For dessert, the meal concludes with Thayir Sadham, Ada Pradhaman and Parippu Pradhaman, accompanied by banana and paan. The traditional payasams provide a fittingly sweet finish to the festive feast.
A Feast Built Around Togetherness
One of the defining aspects of a Sadhya is its generous approach to dining, and HyLo is embracing that spirit with unlimited servings. Guests can enjoy the spread at their own pace while experiencing the communal character of a traditional festive meal.
To accommodate diners throughout the afternoon, the Sadhya will be available across two sittings: 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The format is designed to keep the experience relaxed, giving guests time to savour the different preparations rather than rushing through the meal.
For Mumbai diners looking to celebrate Onam away from Kerala, the experience offers a chance to discover the festival through one of its most recognisable traditions: food shared generously and enjoyed together.
