Waikīkī Beach Marriott Resort & Spa Welcomes Mark Weatherill as General Manager

Luxury Hospitality Leadership Update – Global Edition

The iconic Waikīkī Beach Marriott Resort & Spa has announced the appointment of Mark Weatherill as its new General Manager, marking an exciting new chapter for the property. With more than 40 years of global hospitality leadership, Weatherill brings an extraordinary depth of experience, combining operational excellence with a passion for elevating guest experiences.

A Proven Leader in Luxury Hospitality

Mark’s career journey with Marriott International began in 1984 at the Sheraton Cavalier. Since then, he has successfully led a wide range of roles including Director of Rooms, Director of Food & Beverage, Director of Operations, and multiple General Manager positions. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping properties across the U.S., including The Westin Buckhead Atlanta, Memorial City Hotel Complex in Houston, and most recently, as Complex GM at The Westin Galleria Houston and The Westin Oaks Houston.

During his tenure in Houston, Mark spearheaded a 36-month renovation project across both properties, ensuring a balance between operational continuity and long-term transformation. His results-driven leadership not only improved profitability but also enhanced associate engagement. Under his guidance, both hotels earned the prestigious recognition of Hotel of the Year – U.S. & Canada at the Marriott Managed Full Service Awards.

Connecting Culture with Guest Experiences in Waikīkī

At Waikīkī Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, Mark is set to oversee all aspects of operations, with a sharp focus on guest satisfaction, service excellence, and deepening cultural connections to Waikīkī’s unique heritage. This appointment underscores Marriott’s commitment to pairing strategic leadership with authentic guest experiences in one of the world’s most beloved travel destinations.

Beyond the Boardroom

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Mark has also contributed significantly to the tourism community, serving as Vice Chairman of the Board for Tourism Calgary. He has further strengthened his expertise with multiple leadership and revenue management certifications from Cornell University. When not leading world-class hospitality teams, he enjoys a round of golf – a pursuit that reflects his appreciation for balance and focus.

Hospitality Insight: Leadership appointments like Weatherill’s highlight the vital role that seasoned expertise, transformation-driven strategy, and strong team engagement play in shaping both guest experiences and long-term operational success in the luxury hospitality sector.
