Shangri-La Toronto has announced the promotion of Ashwin Mathur as its new General Manager, effective August 2025. This marks an exciting new chapter for one of Toronto’s most iconic luxury hotels, as Mathur brings over two decades of world-class hospitality expertise spanning Asia and North America.
With a career defined by operational excellence and a passion for crafting memorable guest experiences, Mathur’s leadership journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Since joining Shangri-La Toronto in 2021 as Hotel Manager, he has overseen core departments including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Security, and Engineering. Under his guidance, the property proudly maintained its Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating for three consecutive years and earned the coveted Michelin Key in 2024, solidifying its status as one of Toronto’s premier luxury destinations.
Before his tenure at Shangri-La Toronto, Mathur held senior leadership positions across top-tier brands like Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in Mumbai, Vietnam, Maldives, Dallas, and Toronto, as well as Dusit Thani Maldives and Starwood Hotels & Resorts. His extensive international experience includes pre-openings, brand conversions, and transformative leadership initiatives, consistently delivering exceptional guest satisfaction and strong financial results.
Mathur is credited with reimagining the hotel’s Food & Beverage offerings post-pandemic and introducing immersive room packages that have resonated with luxury travelers. Collaborations with prestigious partners such as the Toronto International Film Festival, National Ballet of Canada, and Cathay Pacific further elevated the hotel’s brand presence.
Outside of work, Mathur embraces Toronto’s vibrant culinary scene, loves traveling with his family, exploring new cultures, and cheering for the Toronto Raptors—a testament to his dynamic and passionate personality.
