Hospitality Tip of The Day — Leadership Feature: Industry Spotlight
Spokesperson: Gurnoor Bindra, General Manager, Raffles Udaipur
In conversation with Divya, CEO, Hospitality Tip of The Day
1. Every luxury brand has a unique DNA. What is the one thing that defines your brand and sets it apart from the competition?
Gurnoor Bindra: At Raffles Udaipur, our defining characteristic is what we call living culture on a private island. While many luxury resorts offer beautiful settings, what truly sets us apart is the way we blend the legendary heritage of Raffles with the soul of Rajasthan in an immersive island environment.
The experience begins long before check-in. Guests arrive at our lakeshore and are welcomed into a journey across the tranquil of Udai Sagar Lake by boat, gradually leaving the outside world behind. As India’s largest private island resort spanning 21 acres, the property offers a rare sense of exclusivity, discovery, and timeless luxury.
What distinguishes us further is how every element of the stay is curated. Guests can start their day with sunrise yoga overlooking the lake, participate in sacred morning and evening aarti rituals, explore our island temple, discover indigenous herbs and spices in the Prana Garden, learn traditional pottery from local artisans, or enjoy intimate cultural evenings featuring Rajasthani folk music and storytelling. For those seeking recreation, the island also offers a range of indoor and outdoor activities, including board games, PlayStation, table tennis, archery, shooting, Segway tours and scenic walking trails across the private island.
At the heart of it all is our legendary Raffles Butler service, delivering highly personalised experiences, from curating private island moments and bespoke celebrations to arranging tailored culinary journeys and exclusive experiences that ensure no two guest stays are ever the same.
For us, luxury is not just about where you stay; it is about how deeply you connect with a place, its people, and its stories.
2. What is your vision for the future of your property and the evolving expectations of luxury travellers?
Gurnoor Bindra: My vision for Raffles Udaipur is to continue establishing the property as one of the world’s most distinctive luxury destinations, an address where global travellers come not only to stay, but to reconnect, celebrate, and be inspired.
The expectations of luxury travellers are becoming increasingly sophisticated. They seek destinations that combine extraordinary settings with authenticity, wellness, personalization, and meaningful experiences. Our objective is to continue evolving in all of these areas while preserving the timeless elegance that defines the Raffles brand.
We are uniquely positioned to achieve this because of the breadth of experiences available across our island and lakeshore environments. From wellness journeys and immersive cultural programming to destination dining, bespoke celebrations, adventure experiences, and family-focused activities, we are constantly expanding opportunities for guests to engage with the property in new ways.
Looking ahead, we will continue strengthening our focus on experiential luxury, emotional wellbeing, and personalized service. We want every guest to leave feeling that they have discovered something rare, a place where nature, culture, hospitality, and human connection exist in perfect harmony.
Our ambition is for Raffles Udaipur to remain a destination of enduring appeal, where every stay is defined by exceptional experiences, thoughtful service and moments of quiet significance, creating a legacy that guests are drawn to revisit across generations.
3. How does your hotel incorporate local culture, heritage, or destination experiences into the guest journey?
Gurnoor Bindra: Rajasthan’s cultural richness is woven into every layer of the Raffles Udaipur experience.
We believe guests should not simply visit Udaipur, they should experience its living heritage. This philosophy begins with our daily rituals, including morning and evening aarti ceremonies that provide moments of reflection and spiritual connection.
Our culinary offerings celebrate regional heritage in equally meaningful ways. At Sawai Kitchen, guests rediscover forgotten recipes inspired by the royal kitchens of Rajasthan, while our culinary masterclasses and Prana Garden experiences connect them directly with local ingredients, traditions, and techniques.
Throughout the island, guests encounter authentic expressions of local culture through folk music performances, traditional dance presentations, artisan-led pottery sessions, and storytelling experiences rooted in Rajasthan’s history.
For us, culture is not an attraction added to the itinerary. It is an integral part of the guest journey, allowing travellers to form genuine connections with the destination and leave with a deeper understanding of Rajasthan’s remarkable legacy.
Q4. What trends are shaping the future of luxury hospitality, and how is your brand preparing for them?
Gurnoor Bindra: Luxury hospitality is evolving from a focus on possessions to a focus on experiences, purpose, and personalization.
Today’s travellers are increasingly seeking meaningful journeys that contribute to their wellbeing while creating authentic connections with destinations. They value privacy, personalization, sustainability, and transformative experiences over traditional notions of luxury.
At Raffles Udaipur, we are already responding to these shifts. Wellness has become a central pillar of the guest experience through our Raffles Spa, Ayurveda-inspired therapies, Alchemy Bar wellness journeys, yoga programs, meditation experiences, and nature-led activities that promote emotional wellbeing as much as physical health.
Experiential travel is another defining trend. Guests no longer want to simply observe a destination, they want to participate in it. Through immersive experiences such as pottery workshops, culinary masterclasses, garden-to-table cooking sessions, high-tea rituals, we create opportunities for deeper engagement.
Personalization remains equally important. We strive to anticipate preferences and design highly tailored itineraries that reflect individual interests, whether those involve wellness, adventure, gastronomy, culture, or family experiences.
As luxury continues to evolve, we believe the future belongs to hotels that can create genuine emotional connections while maintaining exceptional standards of service. That balance is central to everything we do at Raffles Udaipur.
Q5. What experience can guests enjoy at your hotel that they are unlikely to find anywhere else?
Gurnoor Bindra: One of the most extraordinary aspects of Raffles Udaipur is the sheer variety of experiences that unfold within a single private island destination.
A guest may begin the morning with Soulful Sunrise Yoga overlooking the Aravalli Hills, followed by a traditional aarti ceremony at our island temple as the first rays of sunlight illuminate the lake. Later, they may join a Prana Garden experience, hand-picking fresh herbs and vegetables before creating dishes alongside our chefs.
As the day progresses, guests can explore birdwatching trails, nature walks, pottery workshops led by local artisans, immersive culinary masterclasses, tea rituals at The Writers Bar, or even learn the art of crafting our signature Udaipur Sling cocktail inspired by the legendary Singapore Sling.
As evening arrives, the island transforms. Lantern-lit pathways lead to cultural performances where folk musicians, Sufi singers, and traditional dancers bring centuries of Rajasthan’s cultural traditions to life. Guests may then enjoy a private dining experience at The Folly, a secluded romantic venue hidden within the island landscape, or a sunset high tea at Belvedere Point overlooking endless views of Udai Sagar Lake and the Aravallis. For a more celebratory occasion, the Polo Lawn offers an elegant open-air dining experience amidst lush greens and open skies, complemented by bespoke menus and the attentive care of the legendary Raffles Butler, creating an exceptional setting for intimate gatherings and special occasions.
What makes these experiences truly distinctive is not any one moment, but the seamless way in which nature, culture, gastronomy, spirituality and personalised service are woven together, creating a sense of place that is both deeply personal and impossible to replicate elsewhere.
