A Celebration of Hanoi’s Heritage Through Mooncakes

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi is marking its 125th anniversary with a special mooncake collection that brings together Vietnamese heritage, culinary craftsmanship and the hotel’s long-standing legacy. Created for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, the collection, titled “Metropole – A Tale of the Living Legend,” turns a traditional festive gift into a celebration of the hotel’s remarkable history.

Located in the heart of Hanoi, the iconic hotel has welcomed guests since 1901 and has become one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. This year’s collection draws inspiration from that heritage, inviting guests to experience a story of 125 years through carefully crafted flavours and elegant presentation.

Handcrafted Mooncakes with Distinctive Flavours

Prepared by the hotel’s culinary team without preservatives, the collection features both traditional baked mooncakes and delicate snowskin varieties.

Guests can choose from a selection of flavours designed to blend familiar Mid-Autumn tastes with more contemporary combinations. Options include Traditional Mix; Mung Beans, Apricots and Salted Egg; Lotus Seeds and Macadamia Nuts; Black Sesame and Sunflower Seeds, available in the baked range; Orange Zest and Grand Marnier; and Ube and Cordyceps.

The variety gives the collection a balance between classic Vietnamese-inspired flavours and sophisticated modern tastes, making it suitable both for family celebrations and luxury gifting.

A Partnership Celebrating Vietnamese Craftsmanship

Adding another layer of cultural significance to the collection, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi has partnered with Bát Tràng Museum Atelier, a renowned ceramic workshop with almost five decades of history.

The partnership pays tribute to Vietnam’s long tradition of ceramic craftsmanship. Each exclusive Heritage Plate is handcrafted using the atelier’s distinctive layered glazing technique and comes in one of six colours, selected at random.

The result is a unique keepsake that connects two celebrated Hanoi legacies: the historic Metropole and the traditional craftsmanship of Bát Tràng ceramics.

Mooncake Boxes Designed as Keepsakes

The Metropole Mooncake Collection is available in two formats. Guests can choose a six-piece box containing six 100g mooncakes or a four-piece box featuring four 150g mooncakes alongside a Metropole Heritage Plate. Both options are priced at VND 3,500,000.

For those looking for a more elaborate gift, the limited-edition Metropole Lacquer Box offers a more luxurious presentation. Priced at VND 10,990,000, the box includes six 100g mooncakes, Emperor Lotus & Jasmine Tea and a pair of Metropole Heritage Plates.

Designed to be kept long after the mooncakes have been enjoyed, the lacquer box reflects the collection’s emphasis on heritage, craftsmanship and understated luxury.

A Taste of Vietnam’s Mid-Autumn Tradition

Known locally as Tet Trung Thu, the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of Vietnam’s cherished cultural celebrations. Traditionally, families gather to share mooncakes and tea, spend time together and wish for happiness and good fortune in the year ahead.

For Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, the 2026 collection adds another meaning to the celebration by connecting this enduring Vietnamese tradition with the hotel’s own 125-year story.

George Koumendakos, General Manager of Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, described the collection as more than a festive treat, highlighting its role in celebrating the hotel’s living legacy and Vietnam’s enduring craftsmanship.

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi: A Living Landmark

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi has been part of the capital’s history since opening its doors in 1901. Known as the Grande Dame of Hanoi, the hotel combines colonial heritage, neo-classical design and contemporary luxury.

The property features 358 rooms across its Heritage Wing, dating from 1901, and its neo-classical Opera Wing. It is also home to three legendary suites named after notable figures associated with the hotel: Graham Greene, Charlie Chaplin and Somerset Maugham.

Its culinary offering includes six restaurants and bars, ranging from French fine dining at Le Beaulieu to Vietnamese cuisine at Spice Garden. Guests can also enjoy Le Club Bar, angelina, La Terrasse and the Bamboo Bar.

Beyond dining, the hotel features lush gardens, a heated outdoor pool, fitness facilities, meeting spaces and the tranquil Le Spa du Metropole. Its La Boutique and L’Epicerie also offer guests opportunities to explore curated gifts, gourmet products and pastries.

A Mooncake Collection Rooted in History

The 2026 mooncake collection is ultimately a reflection of what makes Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi distinctive. Rather than simply presenting mooncakes as a seasonal delicacy, the hotel has created a collection that brings together food, design, Vietnamese craftsmanship and more than a century of history.

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, the collection offers travellers, residents and luxury gift buyers an opportunity to celebrate Tet Trung Thu with a taste of one of Hanoi’s most enduring landmarks.
