Hilton has appointed Sean Clancy as the new General Manager of Hilton San Diego Bayfront, bringing more than three decades of hospitality leadership experience to one of San Diego’s most prominent waterfront hotels.
In his new role, Clancy will oversee the hotel’s day-to-day operations, guest experience, team engagement and overall commercial performance. His extensive background in managing large-scale luxury and urban properties, combined with his strong ties to San Diego, positions him well to lead the property in the city’s competitive hospitality market.
Sean Clancy Brings More Than 30 Years of Hospitality Leadership
Clancy has built a career around leading major hotels and resorts, with experience spanning operational transformation, business development and team leadership. Throughout his career, he has worked across several important hospitality markets, including San Diego, Miami Beach and Philadelphia.
Before joining Hilton San Diego Bayfront, Clancy served as Vice President and General Manager of a major waterfront resort in San Diego. During his tenure, he played an important role in the property’s repositioning following a significant $127 million renovation.
The project helped strengthen the resort’s position in San Diego’s highly competitive hotel sector, giving Clancy valuable experience in managing complex operations while driving a property’s long-term growth and market appeal.
A Return to Hilton
Clancy’s appointment also represents a return to Hilton, a company where he previously spent eight years of his hospitality career.
Earlier in his career, he held leadership positions at the Arizona Biltmore and Boca Raton Resort & Club, both of which operated under the Waldorf Astoria brand during his tenure.
His previous experience with Hilton, combined with leadership roles at luxury hotels and resorts across the United States, gives him an established understanding of the company’s hospitality standards and operating culture.
Deep Roots in the San Diego Community
Clancy’s connection to San Diego extends beyond his professional career. Over the years, he has been actively involved with several organizations supporting the local community and hospitality industry.
He has served on the boards of San Diego Working Waterfront, the San Diego County Lodging Association and the Coronado Schools Foundation.
His involvement with these organizations has helped him develop a strong understanding of the people, businesses and community networks that contribute to San Diego’s tourism and hospitality landscape.
Leading Hilton San Diego Bayfront Into Its Next Chapter
As General Manager of Hilton San Diego Bayfront, Clancy will focus on maintaining strong operational standards while continuing to enhance the guest experience and support the hotel’s commercial performance.
The waterfront property welcomes a diverse mix of travelers, from convention and business guests to leisure visitors exploring San Diego. Its location also places it close to some of the city’s major attractions, entertainment venues and waterfront experiences.
For a property operating at this scale, effective leadership requires a balance between guest satisfaction, team engagement, operational efficiency and business growth. Clancy’s experience managing large properties and leading major renovation and repositioning initiatives could prove valuable as Hilton San Diego Bayfront continues to strengthen its position in the market.
An Experienced Leader for a Key San Diego Hotel
Sean Clancy’s appointment brings an experienced hospitality executive back to Hilton and places a leader with deep knowledge of the San Diego market at the helm of Hilton San Diego Bayfront.
With more than 30 years in the hospitality industry, previous Hilton leadership experience and strong community connections, Clancy brings a combination of operational expertise and local market knowledge to the role.
His appointment comes as San Diego continues to attract both business and leisure travelers, making experienced hotel leadership increasingly important for properties competing for attention in the city’s dynamic hospitality sector.
