Throughout his career, he has developed expertise in hotel operations, team leadership, financial performance, renovations and guest experience.
His experience spans both established luxury properties and complex hotel environments, giving him a well-rounded understanding of the demands involved in running a high-end hospitality operation.
Leadership Experience Across IHG Properties

Valencia joined IHG in 2012 and has held leadership and operational roles at several notable properties, including InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, InterContinental San Francisco and InterContinental Mark Hopkins.
His career across different markets has provided him with experience managing hotel teams, overseeing operations and supporting properties through periods of change and development.
From Bellman to Hotel Leadership
Valencia’s hospitality journey began as a bellman, giving him firsthand experience of the guest-service side of the industry. From there, he progressed through increasingly senior positions, building his career around a practical and guest-focused approach to hotel management.
That early experience continues to inform his leadership style, particularly when it comes to creating meaningful guest experiences and developing strong hotel teams.
Focus on Operations and Guest Experience
In his new role at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City, Valencia will oversee the hotel’s overall operations, with a focus on service quality, team development, guest engagement and business performance.
His background in hotel renovations, large-scale team management and financial and operational improvement also positions him to balance the day-to-day demands of the property with its longer-term goals.
For guests, this leadership approach is particularly relevant in the boutique hotel sector, where personalized service and a distinctive experience can play an important role in shaping a stay.
Supporting Salt Lake City’s Evolving Hospitality Scene
Valencia’s appointment comes as Salt Lake City’s hospitality market continues to evolve, with travelers increasingly seeking hotels that combine convenient locations with distinctive design, personalized service and memorable experiences.
With his extensive experience across IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, Valencia is expected to bring a strong understanding of boutique and luxury hospitality to Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City as the property continues to strengthen its presence in the city’s downtown hotel market.
Education and Hospitality Background
Valencia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Tourism Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, providing an academic foundation that complements his extensive practical experience in the hotel industry.
