Baker’s Cay Resort Key Largo, Curio Collection by Hilton has appointed David Lurie as its new General Manager, bringing more than 40 years of hospitality experience to the waterfront resort in the Florida Keys.

Lurie steps into the role at an important stage in the resort’s growth, following the recent addition of 12 new luxury suites and ahead of further enhancements planned for the property. As General Manager, he will oversee daily resort operations, guest experiences and team development while helping maintain the relaxed, authentic character that has made Baker’s Cay distinctive.

A Hospitality Career Spanning More Than Four Decades

David Lurie’s career stretches across luxury, independent and branded hotels throughout the United States, giving him extensive experience in hotel operations, leadership and guest service.

His journey in hospitality began at Florida International University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in hospitality administration. After completing his studies, Lurie spent two years sharpening his culinary skills in professional kitchens near Lausanne, Switzerland.

He later returned to Florida and began his hotel career with Miami Airport Hilton, marking the beginning of an approximately 15-year career with Hilton. During his time with the company, he gained valuable experience in hotel operations and leadership, including a leadership role at The Beverly Hilton & Towers.

Leadership at Notable Hotels and Resorts

Over the course of his career, Lurie has taken on senior leadership positions at a diverse collection of hospitality properties across the United States.

His professional experience includes roles at Carmel Mission Inn in Carmel, The Givenchy Hotel & Spa in Palm Springs, La Mansion del Rio Hotel and Watermark Hotel & Spa in San Antonio, and St. Julien Hotel & Spa in Boulder.

Most recently, Lurie served as General Manager of Hotel Amarano in Burbank, where he was brought in to guide the property through a significant operational turnaround.

Working across different hotel types and markets has given Lurie a broad understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved in running successful hospitality businesses. His background combines operational expertise with a strong focus on service, team performance and business results.

An Entrepreneurial Chapter Beyond Hospitality

Lurie’s professional experience also extends beyond hotel management.

He founded free2b Foods, a wholesale snack manufacturing company focused on allergen-free products. Under his leadership, the company grew to more than $4 million in annual revenue and expanded its presence to more than 20,000 retail distribution points.

The entrepreneurial venture added another dimension to Lurie’s leadership experience, giving him firsthand exposure to business development, operational efficiency, customer needs and team building.

When he returned to the hospitality sector, he brought this broader business perspective with him, complementing his decades of hotel management experience.

Leading Baker’s Cay Resort Into Its Next Chapter

Lurie’s appointment comes as Baker’s Cay Resort Key Largo continues to invest in its guest offering.

The resort recently introduced 12 new luxury suites, adding to its accommodation options, while additional improvements are planned as the property continues to evolve.

In his new role, Lurie will be responsible for guiding the resort’s operations while ensuring that future growth does not come at the expense of its distinctive identity.

Set along the waterfront in Key Largo, Baker’s Cay offers a resort experience closely connected to the natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere of the Florida Keys. Maintaining that sense of place will be an important part of the property’s continued development.

A People-Focused Approach to Hospitality Leadership

Throughout his career, Lurie has placed considerable emphasis on team development and talent.

His experience across major hotel brands, independent properties and his own entrepreneurial business gives him a varied perspective on leadership. At Baker’s Cay, that experience will be valuable as the resort continues to strengthen its team, enhance operations and refine the guest experience.

For a resort built around a relaxed Florida Keys atmosphere, effective leadership means finding the right balance between operational excellence and an environment that feels genuine and welcoming. Lurie’s diverse background positions him well to help achieve that balance.
