Lisbon, Portugal | Hospitality Leadership
Minor Hotels has announced the appointment of Jason Marques as General Manager of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa, effective 1 September 2026.
The appointment marks a new chapter for one of Lisbon’s most distinguished luxury hotels. As Tivoli Avenida Liberdade continues to build on more than 90 years of history, Marques brings extensive international hospitality experience and a strong understanding of luxury hotel operations to the iconic property.
More Than Two Decades of International Hospitality Experience
Jason Marques brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience to his new role, having built an international career across luxury hotels and resorts in Europe, Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Middle East.
Before moving to Lisbon, Marques spent two years as General Manager of Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort, where he was responsible for overseeing the resort’s operations and guest experience.
Throughout his career, he has gained experience across a wide range of hospitality disciplines, including hotel operations, resort management, pre-opening projects, franchise operations and luxury guest services.
This diverse background has equipped him with a broad perspective on what it takes to operate successful hospitality properties in different markets.
A Career Built Across International Markets
Marques began his hospitality career in 2003 at Pine Cliffs, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Resort in the Algarve, after completing his studies in Sustainable Tourism at INUAF – Instituto Superior Dom Afonso III.
His international career took a significant step forward in 2012 when he joined Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Algeria as Front Office Manager at Le Méridien Oran Hotel & Convention Centre.
He subsequently progressed to Director of Rooms & Green Belt before taking on the role of Director of Rooms at Sheraton Club des Pins Hotel & Resort.
In 2016, Marques moved to the Seychelles, joining Le Méridien Fisherman’s Cove as Executive Assistant General Manager. His career then continued to the Maldives, where he served as Resort Manager at Constance Halaveli Maldives.
In 2020, he returned to the Seychelles to lead the opening of a new Marriott International resort. In addition to serving as General Manager, he also took on responsibilities as Owner’s Representative, gaining valuable experience in both operational leadership and resort development.
From Hotel Operations to Regional Leadership
Marques’ experience extends beyond managing individual properties. He later joined Marriott International’s London headquarters as Senior Manager, Franchise Operations for Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The position gave him responsibility for overseeing the operational performance of 116 hotels across Southern Europe.
Working at a regional level provided Marques with valuable insight into hotel performance, franchise operations and the challenges of managing hospitality businesses across multiple markets.
In January 2024, he joined Minor Hotels as General Manager of Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort, further strengthening his connection with the Tivoli brand.
Leading an Iconic Lisbon Hotel
Tivoli Avenida Liberdade holds a special place in the history of the Tivoli brand.
Opened in 1933, the Lisbon property was the first Tivoli hotel and the place where the brand’s story began. Situated along the elegant Avenida da Liberdade, one of Lisbon’s most famous boulevards, the hotel has become closely associated with the city’s luxury hospitality scene.
Over the decades, Tivoli Avenida Liberdade has built its reputation around classic elegance, personalised service and a strong connection to Lisbon’s culture and character.
The property is also a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, reflecting its position within the international luxury hospitality landscape.
For Marques, taking leadership of the hotel represents an opportunity to build on a remarkable legacy while continuing to evolve the guest experience for today’s luxury traveller.
A Focus on the Future of Luxury Hospitality in Lisbon
As General Manager, Marques will focus on strengthening the hotel’s guest experience, operational performance and position within Lisbon’s increasingly competitive luxury hospitality market.
His international experience across city hotels, resorts, openings and regional operations provides a strong foundation for the role.
At the same time, the hotel’s heritage will remain central to its identity. Balancing tradition with innovation will be key as Tivoli Avenida Liberdade continues to appeal to both international travellers and guests looking to experience Lisbon from one of the city’s most historic addresses.
A New Chapter for Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa
Jason Marques’ appointment comes at an important time for Tivoli Avenida Liberdade. With more than nine decades of history behind it, the hotel has an established identity, a strong luxury positioning and a reputation that is deeply connected to Lisbon.
His international leadership experience brings a fresh perspective while remaining closely aligned with the values and heritage of the Tivoli brand.
As the property enters this new chapter, the focus will be on continued excellence, thoughtful innovation and creating memorable experiences for guests from around the world.
Congratulations to Jason Marques on his appointment as General Manager of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa, and best wishes for continued success in his new leadership role.
