Emmy Stoel Appointed General Manager of Mandarin Oriental Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands: Mandarin Oriental has announced the appointment of Emmy Stoel as General Manager of Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium, Amsterdam, effective September 1. Bringing more than three decades of international hospitality experience, Stoel returns to Amsterdam to take on a new leadership role at one of the city’s prominent luxury hotels.

Her appointment comes as the property continues its journey under the Mandarin Oriental brand, with a focus on luxury hospitality, culinary experiences, wellness and stronger connections with Amsterdam’s vibrant cultural scene.

A Familiar Face Returns to Amsterdam

For Emmy Stoel, Amsterdam is more than just another destination in her international hospitality career. The city has played an important role in her professional journey, having previously led Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam and Hotel Okura Amsterdam.

During her tenure at these properties, Stoel worked on strengthening hotel operations, developing high-performing teams and building meaningful relationships with the local community. Her experience in Amsterdam gives her an established understanding of the city’s hospitality landscape and its diverse mix of international visitors and local residents.

Her leadership has also earned recognition within the European hospitality industry. In 2023, Stoel was named European Hotel Manager of the Year by the European Hotel Managers Association, recognising her work in areas such as sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and talent development.

Leading Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium Into a New Chapter

Stoel joins Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium following the property’s transition to the Mandarin Oriental brand under the leadership of Susanne Hatje.

In her new position, she will build on the hotel’s existing foundation while helping shape its next phase within Amsterdam’s luxury hospitality market. Her responsibilities will include developing the hotel’s culinary and wellness offerings, attracting and nurturing hospitality talent, and strengthening the property’s relationship with Amsterdam’s cultural community.

A key part of the hotel’s approach will be creating experiences that resonate with both international travellers and Amsterdam residents. By connecting the property more closely with the city’s cultural identity, Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium aims to remain an active part of the local hospitality and lifestyle scene.

More Than 30 Years of International Hospitality Experience

With more than 30 years in the hospitality industry, Stoel has developed extensive experience across international hotel markets. Her career has centred on luxury hotel operations, employee development and delivering distinctive guest experiences.

Her leadership approach places strong emphasis on developing people while maintaining high operational standards. She has also consistently focused on creating stronger relationships between hotels and the communities in which they operate.

Stoel is an alumna of Hotel Management School Maastricht, where she graduated with the Class of 1988.

A New Journey for Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium

With Emmy Stoel returning to Amsterdam, Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium enters its next phase with an experienced hospitality leader at the helm. Her previous knowledge of the city, combined with her international experience, will support the hotel’s continued development as it establishes its identity under the Mandarin Oriental brand.
