Dorchester Collection has appointed Richard Cooke as the new General Manager of Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles, California, with his appointment set to take effect on January 1, 2027. Bringing more than three decades of international luxury hospitality experience, Cooke will lead one of Los Angeles’ most distinguished luxury hotels into its next chapter.
Cooke joins Hotel Bel-Air from Rocco Forte Hotels, where he served as Managing Director for the UK and Northern Europe. His extensive background in luxury hotel management, operational leadership and guest experience positions him to oversee the continued development of this iconic property.
Richard Cooke’s Extensive Experience in Luxury Hospitality
Richard Cooke has built a career spanning more than 30 years across some of the world’s leading luxury hotel brands. His experience covers hotel operations, food and beverage management, team leadership and the delivery of personalised guest experiences.
Before joining Dorchester Collection, Cooke held a senior leadership position at Rocco Forte Hotels, overseeing operations at Brown’s Hotel in London and supporting the company’s wider hotel portfolio across the United Kingdom, Belgium and Germany.
Prior to that, he spent more than 15 years with Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, where he held several senior management positions, including General Manager and Area General Manager roles in Asia and Canada.
His earlier career included food and beverage management experience with Four Seasons, Regent Hotels, The Ritz-Carlton and Rosewood. Working across these internationally recognised hospitality groups helped him develop a broad understanding of luxury service standards and hotel operations.
Education and Professional Development
Originally from the United Kingdom, Cooke has also invested in professional development throughout his hospitality career.
He completed a general management programme at Singapore Management University and pursued executive education at the Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality in Singapore.
His combination of international management experience and executive education provides a strong foundation for leading a property known for its personalised service, privacy and distinctive setting.
Leading the Next Chapter at Hotel Bel-Air
Hotel Bel-Air is renowned for its secluded atmosphere, landscaped gardens and reputation for providing an intimate luxury experience in the heart of Los Angeles.
Set within 12 acres of canyon gardens, the property offers guests a peaceful retreat while remaining within reach of the city’s entertainment, business and cultural destinations.
Cooke’s appointment comes after a significant achievement for the hotel: receiving a prestigious Three-Key distinction from the Michelin Guide. According to the supplied announcement, Hotel Bel-Air is one of only two properties in Los Angeles to receive this recognition, alongside its sister property, The Beverly Hills Hotel.
As General Manager, Cooke will oversee the hotel’s operations and help maintain its focus on exceptional service, operational excellence and its distinctive character.
His experience across luxury hotels in Europe, Asia and North America is expected to bring a global perspective to the property’s continued development.
