The Ranch at Laguna Beach has appointed RJ Bear as its new General Manager, marking an important milestone in his long-standing career with the luxury resort. Bringing more than 20 years of hospitality experience, Bear offers extensive expertise in resort operations, food and beverage management, team leadership and guest services.
Having spent more than a decade at the property, he brings a deep understanding of its operations, service philosophy and connection to the local community. In his new role, Bear will oversee the resort’s overall performance while continuing to strengthen its reputation for personalised hospitality and distinctive coastal experiences.
A Longstanding Connection with The Ranch at Laguna Beach
RJ Bear joined The Ranch at Laguna Beach in 2014 as Food and Beverage Manager, becoming part of the property’s pre-opening team. He played an important role in establishing the resort’s food and beverage operations ahead of its launch.
His early responsibilities included developing operations for Harvest Restaurant & Bar, The Pantry, banquet and event facilities, and poolside dining services. This experience gave him valuable insight into the day-to-day demands of resort management and the importance of delivering consistent service across different guest touchpoints.
Over the years, his continued association with the property has helped him develop a strong understanding of its culture, operational priorities and position within Southern California’s luxury hospitality market.
Extensive Experience in Southern California Hospitality
Before joining The Ranch at Laguna Beach, Bear gained valuable hospitality experience through leadership positions at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach and Surf & Sand Resort in Laguna Beach.
During his time at Surf & Sand Resort, he managed several operational areas, including restaurants, bars, room service, pool services, banquets and golf-related functions. These responsibilities strengthened his ability to coordinate multiple hospitality services while maintaining operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.
His experience across established Southern California properties has provided him with a broad understanding of luxury resort operations, team development and the evolving expectations of today’s travellers.
