The Indian Culinary Forum (ICF) is bringing India’s culinary professionals into the spotlight through the 23rd Annual Chef Awards 2026, with a series of competitions celebrating technical expertise, creativity and excellence in the culinary arts. Held in New Delhi, the competitions provide chefs and aspiring culinary professionals with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills across a wide range of cuisines and specialised disciplines.
The first three days of competitions took place from 21 to 23 October 2026 at Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, New Delhi. The event will continue on 26 October at the Institute of Bakery and Culinary Arts (IBCA), New Delhi, with the Master Chef Baker and Master Chef International Confectionery categories.

The programme is designed to recognise the diversity of culinary expertise while giving participants a platform to benchmark their abilities against professional standards. From traditional Indian preparations to international culinary techniques, the competitions highlight the knowledge, precision and creativity required in professional kitchens.
The categories held at Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute included Master Chef North Indian Cuisine, Master Chef Indian Sweets, Master Chef International Cuisine, Master Chef Oriental Cuisine, Master Chef Butcher, Master Chef Kebabs and Master Chef South/East/West Indian Cuisine.
The programme also featured Vegetable Carving and the Student Chef of the Year competitions for both male and female participants. The remaining categories, Master Chef Baker and Master Chef International Confectionery, are scheduled for 26 October at IBCA, New Delhi.
Professional Jury Evaluates Culinary Skills
Participants are being assessed by a panel of professional chefs led by Chef Rajeev Janveja, Chief of Jury. The evaluation process follows defined criteria to ensure a structured assessment of culinary skills, preparation and presentation.
Key judging parameters include personal and workstation hygiene, food wastage, mise-en-place, visual appeal, culinary technique, and the taste and texture of the main dish and its accompaniments.
These standards reflect the importance of discipline, ingredient management and consistency in professional kitchens. They also encourage participants to approach culinary preparation with attention to detail, from initial preparation to the final presentation.
ICF Leadership Highlights the Importance of Culinary Competitions
Chef Davinder Kumar, President of the Indian Culinary Forum, highlighted the value of competitions in encouraging professional development and recognising culinary expertise.
He said, “Culinary competitions offer chefs an opportunity to put their skills to the test, demonstrate their creativity and benchmark their work against professional standards.”
The organisers have announced a cash prize of ₹20,000 for winners in the Master Chef categories, recognising the preparation, effort and expertise required to compete at this level.
Chef Vivek Saggar, General Secretary of the Indian Culinary Forum, emphasised that successful culinary professionals must combine technical knowledge with precision, hygiene and sound judgement.
He noted that the judging process considers every stage of preparation, including mise-en-place, ingredient handling, presentation, taste and texture. These standards are particularly valuable for young chefs developing the discipline and professional skills required in commercial kitchens.
23rd Annual Chef Awards to Recognise Industry Achievements
Beyond the practical competitions, the 23rd Annual Chef Awards will recognise professional achievements and contributions to India’s culinary industry.
The six Top Chef Awards include the Lifetime Achievement Award, Golden Hat Chef Award, Silver Hat Chef Award, Academic Chef of the Year, Pastry Chef of the Year and the Shri Anil Bhandari Memorial – Chef of the Year.
These awards recognise different aspects of the profession, from long-standing contributions and culinary leadership to academic excellence and specialised pastry expertise.
The celebrations will culminate on 31 October 2026 at Le Méridien, New Delhi, with the 23rd Annual Chef Awards Ceremony and Gala Night with Gourmet Dinner. Winners across the categories will be announced and honoured at the event, bringing together culinary professionals to celebrate talent, dedication and achievements within India’s hospitality sector.
14th Knowledge Summit to Bring Industry Professionals Together
The celebrations will also feature the 14th Knowledge Summit, providing a platform for chefs and hospitality industry experts to exchange ideas and discuss emerging trends and challenges shaping the culinary sector.
The Summit will encourage knowledge-sharing and industry dialogue, complementing the practical competitions and award presentations. Such discussions offer opportunities for professionals to explore developments in culinary practices, training and the wider hospitality industry.
Together, the competitions, awards and Knowledge Summit highlight the importance of continuous learning, professional collaboration and innovation in the culinary field.
