The Wildbirch Hotel – JdV by Hyatt has appointed Carissa Giliam as its new General Manager, bringing nearly two decades of hospitality experience to the 252-room boutique property in downtown Anchorage, Alaska. Having already played an important role in the hotel’s commercial development and operations, Giliam steps into the leadership position with a strong understanding of the property and the local hospitality market.
In her new role, Giliam will oversee the hotel’s overall operations, guest experience, commercial strategy, food and beverage services and team development. Her priorities will include maintaining high service standards, improving operational efficiency and supporting the hotel’s continued growth in Alaska’s tourism sector.
Carissa Giliam’s Journey at The Wildbirch Hotel
Giliam previously served as Director of Sales and Commercial Affairs at The Wildbirch Hotel from August 2025. During her tenure, she led the property’s commercial strategy through its first full year of operations before stepping in as interim general manager.
Her appointment to the permanent role builds on this experience, allowing her to bring continuity to the hotel’s leadership while guiding its next stage of development.
With an established understanding of the hotel’s operations, commercial priorities and guest expectations, Giliam is well positioned to lead its teams and strengthen its presence in Anchorage’s competitive hospitality market.
Nearly Two Decades of Hospitality Leadership Experience
Giliam brings a broad background in hotel management, sales, guest services and operational leadership. Her connection to hospitality began early, as she grew up around her family’s locally owned hotel business, Aspen Hotels.
Over the years, she has developed expertise in building effective teams, improving hotel performance and creating welcoming environments for both guests and employees.
Before joining The Wildbirch Hotel, Giliam served as General Manager of Hilton Anchorage and was the opening General Manager of Aloft Anchorage. She also held the position of Director of Hospitality and Visitor Experience at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center, a Smithsonian-affiliated institution that partners with The Wildbirch Hotel.
Her earlier experience includes nearly five years as General Manager of Crowne Plaza Kansas City Downtown, alongside additional assignments supporting hotel operations through taskforce leadership roles.
This varied experience across established hotel brands and visitor-focused organisations has shaped her approach to hospitality management and guest experience.
Supporting Anchorage’s Tourism and Business Community
Beyond her hotel leadership responsibilities, Giliam remains actively involved in Alaska’s tourism industry and local business community.
She serves on the boards of Visit Anchorage and the Anchorage Downtown Partnership, contributing to initiatives that support tourism development, destination promotion and the wider Anchorage business environment.
Her involvement in these organisations reflects the important connection between hotel performance and the broader destination experience. By working alongside tourism and community stakeholders, she contributes to efforts that help strengthen Anchorage as a destination for visitors.
A New Chapter for The Wildbirch Hotel
The appointment marks an important leadership development for The Wildbirch Hotel, which is located in Anchorage’s downtown Mushing District.
The property holds the distinction of being Anchorage’s first upscale boutique hotel and Alaska’s first JdV by Hyatt property. Its positioning brings a distinctive hospitality offering to a destination known for its natural surroundings, outdoor adventures and tourism experiences.
