RAH GILI MALDIVES, the first island resort within the SIX & SIX PRIVATE ISLANDS collection, has appointed André Kretschmann as its new General Manager, bringing more than 30 years of international luxury hospitality experience to the property. In his new role, Kretschmann will oversee resort operations and the overall guest experience as the property develops its identity as a distinctive luxury destination in the Maldives.
With an extensive career spanning Europe, Asia and the Indian Ocean, Kretschmann brings expertise in luxury resort management, hotel openings, destination development and personalised guest services.
A Distinguished Career in Luxury Hospitality
Throughout his career, André Kretschmann has held senior leadership positions with several prominent hospitality groups, including GHM Hotels & Resorts, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, and LVMH Hotel Management.
His experience spans established luxury properties, resort development projects and the launch of high-profile hospitality destinations. These roles have given him a broad understanding of the operational and strategic demands of managing luxury resorts in diverse international markets.
During his time with LVMH Hotel Management, Kretschmann served as Director for Hotel Openings and Area General Manager for Maison Cheval Blanc. One of his notable assignments was the development and opening of Cheval Blanc Randheli in the Maldives, where he oversaw both pre-opening preparations and post-opening operations.
This experience in bringing a luxury island resort to life has given him valuable insight into the complexities of resort development and delivering a consistent guest experience from the earliest stages of a property’s operations.
Leadership Experience Across the Maldives and Beyond
Kretschmann subsequently served as General Manager of The Chedi Kuda Villingili, leading the property through its pre-opening and operational phases.
His previous general management experience also includes The Legian Bali, The Chedi Muscat, The Chedi Phuket and Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa.
More recently, he has advised hospitality businesses on the planning and development of luxury resorts and residences, with a particular focus on the Maldivian market.
His longstanding contribution to the industry is further reflected in his status as a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality, a professional recognition associated with experience and commitment to the hospitality sector.
Leading Resort Operations at RAH GILI MALDIVES
As General Manager, Kretschmann will oversee all aspects of RAH GILI MALDIVES, including accommodation, dining, wellness, guest activities and the daily management of island life.
His responsibilities will extend to team leadership, service delivery and ensuring that every stage of the guest journey reflects the resort’s identity and hospitality philosophy.
From the arrival experience to dining and wellness activities, his focus will be on bringing the different elements of resort life together into a cohesive and personalised experience.
His background in luxury resort openings and operations is expected to support the property as it establishes its place within the SIX & SIX PRIVATE ISLANDS collection.
The Philosophy of Bodu Edhuru
An important element of Kretschmann’s appointment is the concept of Bodu Edhuru, described by the resort as the head of the Edhurun. The philosophy emphasises mentorship, personal presence and bringing people together.
This approach reflects the resort’s intention to create a connected island community in which hospitality extends beyond operational management to include relationships, teamwork and shared experiences.
By encouraging a strong sense of connection among team members and guests, the philosophy complements the resort’s broader approach to personalised island hospitality.
