Otoki Opens in Colaba A Refined Tribute to Japanese Culinary Tradition

In the vibrant cultural enclave of Colaba, a new chapter in Japanese dining has quietly unfolded. Otoki, the city’s newest culinary destination, brings together the essence of Japan’s traditional izakayas with the finesse of contemporary fine dining. Rooted in authenticity, seasonality, and craftsmanship, Otoki promises a truly transportive experience for lovers of refined cuisine.

At the heart of Otoki’s kitchen is Chef Mohit Singh, whose culinary pedigree includes stints at world-renowned restaurants such as the three-Michelin-starred Kikunoi Honten (Kyoto), Indee (Bangkok), and Boury (Belgium). Chef Singh presents a menu steeped in time-honoured Japanese techniques and ingredient-first philosophy. From delicate kozara (small plates) and pristine sashimi to perfectly seared robata-grilled proteins, handcrafted nigiri, and warming bowls of ramen, each dish honours purity, balance, and seasonal harmony.

Complementing the cuisine is a meticulously curated sake programme, led by Maia Laifungbam, India’s first certified sake brewer. Her selection spans sparkling, dry, and dessert sakes—tailored to elevate both the novice palate and the seasoned enthusiast.

Designed with minimalist elegance, Otoki’s interiors channel the quiet serenity of Kyoto, layered with subtle touches of Mumbai’s cosmopolitan warmth. From its soft lighting and earthy tones to thoughtfully spaced seating, the space invites diners to savour their meals—and moments—with mindful intimacy.

Otoki is the brainchild of Anurag Katriar and Pranav M. Rungta, two stalwarts in India’s hospitality scene. With a shared passion for Japanese culinary culture, the duo sought to create a dining concept that balances craft with approachability.

Otoki is born out of our deep admiration for Japanese culinary culture—its simplicity, precision, and soulfulness. We wanted to create a space that offers more than just a meal; it’s an invitation to slow down and share meaningful conversations,” said Anurag Katriar, Co-founder.

In a city as dynamic as Mumbai, we felt there was space for a concept that blends craftsmanship with comfort. Otoki brings together the warmth of an izakaya with the detail of fine dining,” added Pranav M. Rungta.
